Specialized services include: Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment; Family Violence and Child Abuse; Life Transition and Bereavement; 1035 Intensive Outpatient Clinic; Youth and Family Services and Employee Assistance Programs. V.I.B.S. is a not-for-profit agency which exists to assist survivors of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault and incest, to help prevent the incidence of these crimes through education and to raise community awareness of the need for justice and compassion for victims of these crimes. 24 hour Hotline for domestic violence and rape crisis. We provide advocacy, individual and group counseling for children and adults.

ELIGIBILITY: Suffolk County resident.
FEES: Voluntary contribution. Sliding scale fee for the HALT Program.
PROGRAM INFO
Elder Abuse Program: Counseling and advocacy services for elderly victims of physical, emotional, sexual or financial abuse. Contact person - Georgine D.
Children's Program: Counseling for children 3 1/2 to 12 years old who witness domestic violence or for victims of rape and sexual assault. Contact person - Anna Marie W.
Emergency Room Companion Program: Volunteers are on 24 hour call to meet victims at hospital emergency rooms. To request an ERC, call the hotline (360-3606) or ask the hospital to call VIBS. Contact person - Virginia S.
Speaker's Bureau/Community Education: Educational presentations on the dynamics of rape, date rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence, and teen dating violence. Professional training and staff in-services are also available. Contact person - Susan K.
HALT (Help Abusers Learn Together) Program: This program is designed for men who want help in overcoming their abusive behavior. Voluntary and court mandated referrals are accepted into the program. Contact person - Andrew G. (360-2270).
Advocacy: Information, referral, and court accompaniment. Advocates interface with Family and Criminal Court, the Police Department, the Probation Department and the District Attorney. Contact person - Ruth R.
SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Program: Coordination with nurses who have been specially trained to examine sexual assault victims, collect evidence and testify in court. We are working to expand this program into more hospitals. Establish procedures and protocols involving hospitals, police, DA's office and VIBS as the rape crisis agency. Contact person - Joanne G.
Counseling: Individual and group counseling for victims. All counseling is short-term crisis intervention. Contact person - Laura S.
